Privacy Policy
The Famous Sheffield Shop privacy policy demonstrates how we use and protect information we need to gather in order to fulfil on line orders. The policy also applies to customers making telephone orders to our store, and people buying in person from our store.
Recording of personal information.
We aim to collect the minimum amount of personal information to allow us to serve our customers efficiently and in a timely manner.
The information we collect consists of the following:
Your telephone and email address preferences so that we can contact you concerning your purchase from our store, or concerning an enquiry you have made.
Your preferred delivery address, and for commercial goods, permission to include a contact telephone number on the outside of the parcel.
The address of any third party to whom you wish a purchase to be sent (eg a birthday gift).
Any special instructions and personal details you offer in connection with a purchase or enquiry (eg engraving instructions or a message for the postal service).
For telephone purchases, the credit or debit card number required for your payment.
For online purchases, our analytical services aggregate data based on IP (International Protocol) addresses, type of device used, browser, length of visit, pages viewed, pathway through the website and geographical location. This information helps us to evaluate the customer's online experience so that we can continually improve our service.
We are required by law to verify that on line purchases made in the UK are only made by persons over the age of 18 in respect of knives. This requires us to use third parties (eg credit reference agencies) to achieve an independent verification of the buyer's age.
How we use Personal information.
Your personal information is used to enable us to provide a fast and secure service to our prospective and existing customers. We use contact details to enable us to discuss any questions about your order or your requirements. We use analytical information which is aggregated so that we can ensure the design and presentation of our website is user-friendly and offering products and services of interest to our customer base.
Customers who wish to be contacted about future offers and services from The Famous Sheffield Shop will be explicitly asked to give their consent.
Security
We are committed to ensuring that your information is secure. We hold a PC based customer database that is password protected and held on a single computer.
We hold a record of all customers who have made an on-line purchase. This database is restricted to a single computer and is password protected. We are required by law to retain copies of customer receipts for purchases made over the telephone or in the shop. These records are kept under lock and key, securely archived, and shredded after 6 years.
For on-line purchases, the only financial information submitted to The Famous Sheffield Shop records the cardholder's name, the last four numbers of the purchaser's credit/debit card and the expiry date.
Your personal and payment card details are protected through encryption technology. We and our Payment Service Provider (Capita) comply with the requirements of the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS), renewed and updated annually. When buying through our website, you are protected at all stages of the process. Our security system flags up any suspected fraudulent transactions eg where a card that has been reported stolen is used in an attempt to make a purchase.
